Jean de Dieu Dusengimana Bio

Greetings, I am Jean de Dieu Dusengimana, a passionate advocate for biodiversity conservation and natural resources management in Rwanda. My journey in this field has been both enriching and diverse. Currently, I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Science in Environmental Economics and Natural Resources Management at UNILAK, building upon my Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Management from the Protestant Institute of Arts and Social Sciences, where I graduated with Second Class Upper Division honors.

Additionally, I hold a Wildlife Specialist’s Diploma from ECOLE DE FAUNE DE GAROUA in Cameroon, a testament to my continuous pursuit of knowledge and skill enhancement.

My professional trajectory commenced with a meaningful role as a Park Ranger in Nyungwe National Park under Rwanda Development Board, where I spent two impactful years from 2011 to 2013. During this time, I diligently safeguarded the park’s wildlife and plant life, utilizing cutting-edge GPS technology to monitor key species and produce comprehensive reports to support conservation efforts. Transitioning to the position of Forest Protection Officer at New Forests Company (Rwanda), I dedicated five years from 2015 to 2020 to protecting the buffer zone of Nyungwe National Park. Here, I effectively prevented illegal activities and ensured the security of company assets, contributing to the preservation of this vital ecosystem.

Since August 2020, I have been privileged to serve as a Field Officer at Biodiversity Conservation Organization (BIOCOOR), where I play a pivotal role in advancing biodiversity conservation and natural resources management. My responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks, from leading project activities and collaborating with stakeholders to providing technical and financial support to program participants. I am deeply committed to facilitating monitoring and evaluation activities and delivering high-quality reports in a timely manner to drive sustainable outcomes. My dedication to professional growth is evident through my active participation in numerous training programs, covering diverse areas such as chimpanzee conservation education, firefighting, organizational management, and environmental stewardship. Additionally, I am actively involved in biodiversity studies and monitoring initiatives in Nyungwe National Park, as well as contributing to Rwanda’s conservation strategy data collection efforts. Beyond my professional endeavors, I am honored to share my knowledge and experiences as a part-time Lecturer at IPRC Kitabi, where I impart insights on topics such as apiculture in biodiversity conservation, wildlife compliance, and wildlife monitoring and protection. Through my multifaceted contributions, I continue to make meaningful strides in the realm of biodiversity conservation and natural resources management, driven by a deep-rooted passion for environmental stewardship and sustainable development
